Russia-born ‘Father with swastika’ detained over keeping ammunition

A criminal case has been opened against Konstantin Burykin, a notorious priest from the village of Hatovo in Minsk.

The detainee was in contact with pro-Russian organization Rumol and neo-Nazi group ‘The Russian National Unity’ (RNE), though it is still unknown whether he was a member of the latter. In 2014, media outlets revealed that the Orthodox priest had a tattooed swastika on his shoulder. Later Burykin reportedly renounced his former interests and hobbies.

The suspect was arrested by officers of the Main Directorate for Combating Organized Crime and Corruption of Belarus’ Ministry of Interior for illegal actions with regard to ammunition (Article 295-2 of the Criminal Code); the investigators are studing other materials of the case, Yuliya Hancharova, Spokeswoman for the Investigative Committee, told svaboda.org. Now Burykin is in custody.

The priest also heads Belaya Rus, a ‘spiritual and sports center’. He is the first deputy chairman of the Belarusian Powerlifting Federation. Konstantin Burykin was born in Russia’s Omsk; his sister and parents live in Minsk.
