Politician Neklyayeu appeals his detention to Prosecutor General's Office

The politician, who was taken off the Warsaw–Moscow train on the night of March 25 at Brest station, said his detention was, in fact, a kidnapping. On March 28th, the poet sent the relevant document to the prosecutor’s office. This was reported by human rights activist Raman Kislyak.

Uladzimir Neklyayeu has noted that the KGB and riot police, who took him to the detention center, did not present any IDs, nor did they provide reasons for the detention. The lawyer and relatives of the politician were not notified of his whereabouts. At the same time the Leninski district police department staff denied that the poet was kept in their facility.

In his complaint to the Prosecutor General, the politician demanded that his detention and abduction be deemed a kidnapping and criminal proceedings for knowingly unlawful arrest and detention be initiated.

Uladzimir Neklyayeu believes that his right to freedom from torture and the right to liberty and security of person has been violated. The international law recognizes detention of person without access to lawyers and without communication with the outside world as torture.

After he was detained Neklyayeu suffered a hypertensive crisis and had to spend some time in hospital. Today he has been discharged from hospital in Brest.
