Political prisoner Vital Shklyarau has been released from the detention center under the personal guarantee of Yury Vaskrasenski. Vaskrasenski said so to Novaya Gazeta, and Anton Hashynski, Shklyarau’s lawyer, confirmed the information.
This is the sixth political prisoner, who had his restraint measure changed after Lukashenka’s visit to the KGB jail.
Vital Shklyarau was moved to house arrest. “I have not yet seen the decision to change the preventive measure. But the Investigative Committee confirmed to me that as of today, his preventive measure has been changed to house arrest,” lawyer of political prisoner Anton Hashynski told Belsat.
It is still unknown where Vital Shklyarau should be staying — in Minsk or with his parents in Homiel.
The lawyer has not yet seen Vital after the decision to change his preventive measure. But today the IC has planned the investigation actions with participation of Shklyarau.
Political technologist Vital Shklyarau was detained in Homiel on 29 July and charged under part 1 of article 342 of the Criminal Code (organization and preparation of actions that grossly violate public order).
According to some information, Shklyarau had cooperated with Tsikhanouski, but both Tsikhanouski and Shklyarau denied this information.
Vital Shklyarau was born in Homiel. He studied in Germany and worked in the election campaigns of Angela Merkel, Barack Obama, Bernie Sanders. His wife is a U.S. citizen working at the American Embassy in Kyiv. Thus, Shklyarau has a diplomatic passport.
