Political prisoner Ihar Losik kept in prison for longer

The detention period for political prisoner Ihar Losik has been extended by three months, until March 25. Ihar’s wife Daria Losik wrote this on her Instagram.

On December 25, the term of Ihar Losik’s detention was to end. But on December 15, the political prisoner waschatged with “preparation for participation in mass riots” (part 2 of article 293 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus). As a result, Ihar Losik’s detention was extended until March 25.

Ihar Losik pleaded not guilty and went on an indefinite hunger strike until all charges were dropped or the measure of restraint was changed. He considers his criminal prosecution to be politically motivated.

Ihar Losik is a blogger and the administrator of the telegram channel “Belarus of the Brain”. The blogger actively covered the events around the election campaign of the President of Belarus. He was detained on June 25 in Baranavichy.

There are 167 political prisoners in Belarus today, including the journalists of Belsat Katsyaryna Andreyeva and Daria Chultsova.
