Police urge arrested opposition activist not to hold rally


Politician Pavel Seviayinets received 15 days of arrest. But the police let him go.

On December 18th , Co-chairman of the BCD Pavel Seviarynets was detained by the riot police. On the same day the politician was taken to court.

Seviarynets organized protests against the integration with Russia on December 7 and 8. The politician was sentenced to 15 days of arrest for unauthorized actions (part 3 of Article 23.34 of the Code of Administrative Infringements), but for some reason he was released by the police. Also, law enforcers warned Seviarynets not to hold an action on December 20.

The website of the Ministry of Internal Affairs published an explanation of why it is forbidden to hold the action on Kastrychnitskaya Square on December 20.

Pavel Seviarynets was informed that a charity event “Our Children” is currently held on the territory of the Republic of Belarus. Every day the Palace of the Republic hosts New Year’s events for children coming to the capital from different regions of the country. A charity event will be held in the Palace of the Republic on December 20, which will be attended by a large number of citizens,” the message reads.

On December 17, Pavel Seviarynets submitted to Minsk City Executive Committee the documents for the action on December 20 and 21.
