Police search flat of Belarusian volunteer fighter in Ukraine

The police officers came to the flat on Thursday morning, Eduard Lobau’s mother Maryna told Radio Svaboda. The search was carried out under the command of Roman Kizhapin, a senior security officer of the Main Directorate for Combating Organized Criminality and Corruption.

Former political prisoner Eduard Lobau has been fighting as a volunteer in Ukraine since the summer of 2015.

“I was going out to walk my dogs, but three tall plainclothed men were waiting for me near the elevator. They showed me a search warrant signed by a prosecutor in connection with the fact a criminal case was opened against Edik [Eduard Lobau] for his participation in military operations in Ukraine.

I was forced to go back to the flat. They came in and took witnesses to the thearch. Several officers were guarding the entrance to the flat.

During the search they seized two laptops – mine and my husband’s, our computer’s CPU, several pendrive drives and a book about the Young Front and the HRC ‘Viasna’.

In violation of the law, they took away a mobile phone from my pocket by force. They had only a warrant for search in our flat, not for personal nspection, that is why it is a violation, not mentioning that it was done by male policemen who used force.

In the protocol I espressed displeasure with their seizing the mobile phone and tearing my jacket – it happened when they were patting me down. I also stressed that I had not been allowed to contact a lawyer,” Maryna Lobava said.

As reported earlier, 135 criminal cases were opened against Belarusians who fought or are fighting in Ukraine, no matter on which side.
