Poland to strengthen security on border with Russia

Poland is erecting six lookout towers along the 200-kilometer border with Russia’s Kaliningrad region. The towers up to 50 m high are designed for day and night surveillance of the border, Polish TV channel TVN24 reports with a reference to border officers of the Warmian-Mazurian Voivodeship.

The project is to be launched in June 2015, now the equipment is being tested.

The total cost of construction exceeds $ 14 million, 75% of which is financed by the EU.

Every year about 6.5 mln people cross the 200-km-long Polish-Russian border which runs along the Warmian-Mazurian Voivodeship.
