Such awards are handed to border guards who distinguished themselves with personal courage and special contribution to the protection of the state border, TV station ONT reports.

“It often occurs to me that if I had not done my service in the border troops, I would not have become President,” the Belarusian leader said during his visit to the Dzivin border guard station in June, 2018.

In 1975-77, Alyaksandr Lukashenka served in the Border Guard, where he was an instructor of the political department of military unit No. 2187 of the Western Frontier District in Brest.
