‘Medium-Security Quisine’: Ex-political prisoner starts food video blogging

Pavel Vinahradau, a civic activist and former political prisoner, has launched Medium-Security Quisine to blog about prison foods and interview ‘interesting people’. His first guest is Young Front leader Zmitser Dashkevich, who, as an ex-prisoner of conscience, is also jail-wise. In the video, the duo shows how convicts make a cake of fruits and condensed milk.

During the breaks, the host and the guest discussed the latest news and invite everyone to show up at today’s rally on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of granting the status of  state symbols to the historical white-red-white flag and emblem ‘Pahonya’ (Pursuit) which the Belarusian regime currently considers as the symbols of Belarusian opposition. The event is to begin at 19:00 on Monday in Kastrychnitskaya Square in Minsk. It is expected that two kilometers of ribbon with national symbols will be distributed.

Earlier Vinahradau, who is well-known for his ingenious ideas and bright projects, organized the ’15-Day Arrest’ barber shop and trimmed hair of photographer Anton Matolka, political expert Alyaksandr Fyaduta, politician Ales Lahvinets and others.

In May 2011, Pavel Vinahradau was sentenced to four years of imprisonment for participating in the post-election protests in Minsk on December 19, 2010. He was pardoned by Alyaksandr Lukashenka on September 14, 2011 although Vinahradau had never filed a petition to the president. The authorities imposed a preventive supervision over the activist for 3.5 years. The period was then extended for six months more, as he had been held liable repeatedly according to art. 23.34 of the Code of Administrative Violations. The supervision was lifted in November 2015.

The youth activist used to hold creative but controversial protest actions. The authorities continued to persecute him: Vinahradau was repeatedly detained. For example, in the course of 2014, he spent altogether sixty days in prison.
