Parliamentary election on September 11: Lukashenka promises ‘highest organizational level’


Belarusian president Alyaksandr Lukashenka endorsed the idea of holding the election to the House of Representatives of the National Assembly on September 11, Lidziya Yarmoshyna, the chairperson of the Central Election Commission (CEC) told journalists on Wednesday.

“Today we discussed the optimal date for the election. The president agreed to having it on September, 11. The election campaign is to start no later than June, 10. ” Ms Yarmoshyna said.

“According to the established practice, people will express their will in a democratic and calm atmosphere. The main thing is that we should ensure the highest organizational level as we have always done,” Lukashenka said today at a government session to discuss the improvement of the country’s election legislation.

As reported earlier, during the recent State of the Nation address the Belarusian leader hinted that he did have impact on the process of electing MPs:

“I cannot deny that some MPs are seeking my suport to be re-elected. This is normal. You should not be ashamed! You are my people, my kids. I will support you.”
