Five persons arrested for post-election protesting in Minsk

Five activists of the anarchist movement were detained near Independence Square in Minsk on Sunday evening.

“Two of them were placed in the detention center in Akrestsin Street. The fate of the others is being cleared,” HRC Viasna reports.

The detainees were charged under art. 17.1 of the Code of Administrative Offences (petty hooliganism), and will be tried at Kastrychnitski district court of Minsk on Monday.

A minor administrative report was drawn up upon Yahor Skrabneuski for the alleged involvement in organizing the post-election protest, holding ‘banned’ white-red-white flag, Belsat reported on October, 11.

It is to be recalled that Alyaksandr Lukashenka addressed pro-opposition citizens and warned them against post-election protesting.

“I firmly demanded that no one should be touch before the election. But the election is to finish today at 20:00. I warn you – start living in accordance with the law!” he told journalists on Sunday.

After polling stations closed at 20:00, a spontaneous action of protest was held in downtown Minsk. The number of its participants was variously estimated from 150 to 400 persons.
