Over 50% of young Russians want to emigrate - pollster


More than half of young Russians would like to leave for permanent residence abroad, September’s survey conducted by the Levada Center shows. In addition, the migration inclination growth was recorded among middle-aged Russians.

According to Levada, 21% of Russian citizens expressed a desire to domicile in a foreign country, which is 6 points higher than what was recorded in May, 2019.

Sociologists note that most of those who want to leave Russia are among young people at the age of 18-24 years (53% of respondents).

In turn, middle-aged people seem to be in no rush to emigrate. However, those who are still eager to resettle name the following motives for relocation: securing a better future for children (45%), many are not satisfied with the current economic (40%) and political situation (33%) in Russia.

In 2013, in accordance with Levada polls, 22% of interviewees were eager to move abroad, in 2017 – 15%.
