OSCE reacts to punishment requested for Maryna Zolatava


The OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media Harlem Désir has pointed out that he continues to closely monitor the trial of the TUT.by chief editor Maryna Zolatava. He posted the relevant message on his Twitter page.

“I continue to closely monitor the trial of Marina Zolotova, editor of @tutby news agency, in #Belarus. Hefty fine requested by prosecution is deeply alarming. Journalist should in no way be prevented from continuing her important work,” he wrote, according to TUT.BY.

The criminal case against Maryna Zolatava is heard in Minsk. Chief Editor of TUT.BY has been charged under part 2 of the Article 425 of the Criminal Code. The presiding judge in the case is Alyaksandr Petrash.

Chief editor of TUT.BY Maryna Zolatava has pleaded not guilty. The state prosecutor Yulia Harcheykina found the Zolatava’s guilt proven and asked for the punishment by a fine of one thousand base units (25.5 thousand). The defense asked for Maryna Zolatava to be found not guilty. The sentence will be announced on March 4.
