Opposition MP Alena Anisim set to run for presidency

Being concerned over the future of the Belarusian language and the country’s indepemdence, MP Alena Anisim may join the next presidential election race.

“What’s wrong in taking part in a good thing? [During a presidential campaign] one shows their intention to take responsibility for the fate of the country. Therefore, from my point of view, it is a very good thing,” the opposition lawmaker told Euroradio.

According to the politician, earlier it was her friends and associates who encouraged her to engage in social and political activities, but the situation has changed.

“Now other people, those who position themselves as enemies of independent Belarus, make me to run for presidency. I see that our country is in danger, I am aware of the gravity of their attacks; and I must respond as there is no response from our authorities,” Anisim said.

In her opinion, the Belarusian society is almost ready for a female president’s ruling the country.

“Experience has shown that women can make important decisions and be in power. We also have Maryana Shchotkina, Natallya Kachanava, other women holding positions in the ministries; it leads the society up to the fact that a woman can run for the highest office in the country – and qualify for it,” the deputy stressed.

As a politician, she also aims at promoting the Belarusian language, Alena Anisim added.
