Not a tourist, terrorist: people photographing strategic buildings to be detained

Interior Minister Ihar Shunevich told reporters what buildings should not be photographed.

It is not advised to photograph the strategic buildings of the Interior Ministry, the KGB, the courts and other law enforcement bodies, as well as the railway station. Such measures are not only introduced to prevent terrorist attacks, but also to deal with the usual tricks, which can discredit the authorities.

“Exposure of sexual organs and photographing against the Palace of Republic, is classified as hooliganism,” said Ihar Shunevich.

The Interior Minister noted that there is no ban on photographing, but if the behavior of a person arouses suspicions of the police officer, the latter must make clear why these pictures are taken.

In Minsk, there have already been two incidents with detention for photographing buildings. In February, a Russian tourist was detained for photographing building in Loyeu. Later that month, there were detentions of journalists and photographers from Komsomolskaya Pravda, Belsat, Belarusian Association of Journalists and bloggers from Minsk.
