Not enough sponsors for 2nd European Games in Minsk - PM


During his recent visit to Italy, Belarusian Prime Minister Syarhei Rumas met with President of the European Olympic Committee Janez Kocijancic. The process of preparations for the Second European Games was the main item on the agenda.

We discussed an important question, i.e. acquisition of international sponsors. In accordance with the contract the [European Olympic Committees’] obligation was to attract big international sponsors, but for the moment, we cannot be satisfies with the results of their work,” the press service of the Belarusian government quotes him as saying.

Therefore, the participants of the meeting were trying to find a solution.

“We have agreed that the Belarusian side will do their best to find sponsors in such premium sectors as oil refining, banking, beverages,” he said.

In respect to domestic preparing for the event, all the state agencies involved are completing their tasks, Belarusian officials state. Key issues are reportedly being considered and solved by the organizing committee.

The 2nd European Games will be held in Minsk in June 21-30, 2019. For the first time it took place in 2015 in Baku; it was started rolling by Alyaksandr Lukashenka’s close friend, Azerbaijani president Ilham Aliyev, who definitely wants it to run and run. However, holding the event may cost Belarusians $30-40 mln.
