North Korean diplomat runs away from Russia to Belarus

Third Secretary of the North Korean Embassy to the Russian Federation and his family have flown to Belarus. The family is allegedly going to flee to some Western country.

On July 1, the North Korean official left his office. However, his boss called the police only five days later. The apartment where the North Koreans were staying in turned to be empty, the telephone was switched off on July 2.

According to CCTV footage, he drove to Pulkovo Airport, where the diplomat, his wife and son bought Belavia tickets and flew to Minsk at 21:13.

In March, the North Korean leadership said the citizens should be prepared for the worst. The crisis is the result of UN Security Council sanctions against the country in response to Pyongyang’s testing a hydrogen bomb and launching long-range missiles.

Escaping from North Korea is considered a very serious offense and is punishable by imprisonment, torture and even death.
