No violations in signature invalidation process, CEC reports

The Belrusian Central Election Commission has responded to numerous appeals, sent by citizens of Belarus after checks of the signatures in the signature sheets. According to the CEC, the territorial commissions made an inspection in accordance with the legislation, so there are no grounds for satisfaction of complaints and applications.

In many appeals to the CEC the applicants demand to inform about the procedure of selection of signatures for inspections and confirm the legality of the commissions’ actions. Citizens demanded to check and confirm the recognition or non-recognition of their signatures. CEC representatives report that the procedure for checking signatures is regulated by the electoral legislation.

“The election legislation does not provide for the procedure of re-examination of a voter’s signature at their request, provision of copies of materials on verification of signatures and individual or group appeal by voters against the results of inspections in court,” CEC said in a statement.

Moreover, the CEC reports, only a person nominated by a candidate is entitled to get acquainted with the materials of inspections. Therefore, according to the CEC representatives, there are no legal grounds for satisfying the complaints.
