'No need to play democracy': Lukashenka expects obedience of Belarusian MPs

Belarusian president Alyaksandr Lukashenka wants members of parliament to be more prefessional, he told Uladzimir Andreychanka, the chairman of the House of Representatives, on Monday.

He reminded that the parliamentary election would take place in Belarus in 2016 and stressed that the MPs of this convocation should take an active part in the preparations for the forthcoming election campaign, i.e. to step up work with the population in constituencies, provide assistance in the resolution of topical issues to local authorities.

According to the Belarusian leader, this work will be done for the sake of the state and in this case there is no need to play some ‘unclear democracy’. “Our responsibility is very high because we are elected by people,” he added.

Interestingly, last week the Belarusian president promised Polish Foreign Minister Witold Waszczykowski to use Poland’s example of implementing the social and economic policy in the country in a way so that no one could ever reproach Belarus for the deficit or absence of democracy.
