Newly appointed Russian ambassador set to 'deepen integration'

According to Leonid Kalashnikov, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots, the new Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Belarus, Dmitry Mezentsev, will have to tackle serious tasks in deepening integration within the framework of the Union State of the Russian Federation and Belarus.

“He has a lot of tasks, including those mentioned by the presidents in Sochi. These are very serious tasks aimed at deepening integration within the framework of the Union State,” he told TASS.

The head of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Federation Council, Konstantin Kosachev, noted on his Facebook page that Mezentsev has a “highly responsible mission” which is important for Russia and Belarus.

“The President of Russia appoints and dismisses ambassadors depending on the developing situation. If the president considered that the task that was posed to Mikhail Babich was completed, it means that he recalled him in order to assign him to another important area of work,” Viktor Vodolatsky, first deputy chairman of the committee of the State Duma for the CIS, Eurasian integration and compatriots, told Interfax.
