NATO fighters intercept Russian aircraft by Baltic States' borders

On 16 January, NATO fighter jets conducting the Baltic Air Policing Mission were scrambled to identify and intercept an aircraft which was flying over neutral waters of the Baltic Sea without a pre-filed flight plan, Delfi reports.

The aircraft was identified to be a Russian military IL-76 flying from mainland Russian towards Kaliningrad, its onboard transponder was switched on and the aircraft was maintaining radio communication, Lithuania’s Ministry of National Defence said.
