Nadiya Savchenko not to participate in trilateral contact group meeting in Minsk

Nadiya Savchenko will not come to Minsk to take part in the trilateral contact group meeting on the settlement of the conflict in Donbas, her sister Vira Savchenko told news agency BelaPAN.

As reported before, the Ukrainian pilot was expected to participate in the talks, Valery Dzhigun, Charge d’Affaires of Ukraine in the Republic of Belarus, said on May 26 at the Embassy of Ukraine during a party devoted to the Day of Slavic Writing and Culture.

“Nadiya is not going to Minsk. I just talked to her and she said: “I would not mind going and seeing what is going on there. But it is a big-league politics, and Ukraine’s president has not come up with such a proposal,” Vira Savchenko said.

According to her, Nadiya Savchenko’s first foreign travel is scheduled for the next week. The Ukrainian MP is to attend the session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.

On May 25, the presidential aircraft took Savchenko who had been in custody in Russia since July 2014 to Kyiv; she was swapped for two Russian GRU officers.

The Belarusian authorities expressed hope that the release of Savchenko would have a positive impact on the entire negotiation process on the situation in the east of Ukraine.
