Muscle spasms and weakness: hunger strike in Kalinkavichy and Pukhavichy continues
As of April 30, 14 women are on the hunger strike (7 in Kalinkavichy and 7 in Pukhavichy), whose relatives are serving sentences for the use of drugs (article 328 of the Criminal Code).
“Today, another mother from the Zhytkavichy joined us. Now we feel good. True, there is weakness and muscle spasms. Yesterday, the chairman of the local council of deputies, Viktar Zamostsik, came to us with the doctors. We checked the blood pressure and wished to get out of here healthy, ” says Tatsyana Kaneskaya from Homiel.
On April 27, the participants of the movement “Mother 328” started an indefinite hunger strike, seeking to mitigate the punishment under criminal article 328.
On May 2, seven participants of the Kalinkavichy hunger strike will have a meeting at the Presidential Administration, provided that it will be attended by the officials who, in the opinion of the hungry, can help them “end the madness” with prison terms under Article 328.
In early April, Minsk activists held a rally for the decriminalization of light drugs. There were 14 people demanding changes to article 328 — the abolition of punishment for the use of light drugs. The action took place on the Lenin. Some participants of the action were fined.
