More criminal cases: Opposition bloggers in crosshairs


The Belarusian authorities opened new criminal cases against bloggers criticising Alyaksandr Lukashenka and the current situation in the country, NEXTA Live Telegram channel reports.

According to then, criminal proceedings have also been initiated against bloggers Syarhei Pyatrukhin and Uladzimir Tsyhanovich (MozgON).

On June 25, Pyatrukhin was arrested and taken from Kobryn pre-trial facility to the detention centre (‘Akrestsina’) in Minsk. His case may be linked to the events in Hrodna, i.e. the provocation against might-have-been presidential candidate Syarhei Tsikhanouski and his supporters.

Uladzimir Tsyhanovich was detained on June 9 and later sentenced to 15 days of administrative arrest. It is unknown which prison he is being held in, tut.by reports.

On Thursday afternoon, law enforcers showed a search warrant to blogger Ihar Losik, who is also an administrator of popular Telegram channel Беларусь головного мозга (Belarus Of The Brain). After the search, Losik was detained. and charged with ‘organising mass disturbances’.

On June 25, Belarusian President Alyaksandr Lukashenka made a speech, slamming ‘puppeteers’ from Poland and Russia who are ‘behind spreading fakes’ about him and his family on the Internet, including on Telegram.
