Money, cat disappeared: Arrested Young Front leader’s flat searched in absence of owners

Young Front Zmitser Dashkevich who was arrested yesterday might be in the KGB jail. While his wife Nasta Dashkevich was trying to to find out where her husband had been taken to, their flat was searched.

When Nasta Dashkevich and her two little kids returned home, she spotted some changes in the flat. It is noteworthy that the door was locked.

“I came home, opened the door with my key, walked into the flat. Some things got my attention: the doors were open, there were chairs in the room (witnesses must have sat there). They took out our personal belongings – Zmitser’s camouflage clothes, documents. They did not turn the flat upside down, but it was clear that they had been looking for something,” she told RFE/RL.

The most outrageous fact is that money (appr. $400) disappeared without a trace from the flat after the search, as well as Dashkevichs’ pet, cat Leapold.

On March 22, the Minsk police arrested former political prisoner Zmitser Dashkevich, activist Artsyom Leuchanka and Syarhei Palcheuski who were assembling kitchen furniture in the flat of the famous Belarusian historian and writer Uladzimir Arlou.

The Belarusian authorities have apparently decided to neutralize Belarusian activists in the run-up of the Freedom Day march on March 25.

Moreover, brutal arrest of the people for unknown reasons began after Alyaksandr Lukashenka’s statement that gunmen with weapons who were preparing a provocation had been detained in Belarus.
