Minskers about weakening Belarus ruble: Key lies in our dependence on Russia

The Belarusian ruble has been in a free fall for three consecutive days. This is due to the collapse of the market in Russia, which happened after the introduction of new US sanctions.

On April 11, Belsat TV reporters asked Minsk residents whether they fear another devaluation of the national currency.

“One never can tell. But I do not fell confident about the future,” a man said.

“One may be afraid, but it is pointless. Therefore, if one has any plans in life, they have to leave the country, ” a woman said.

“5 percent fall is not much for the Belarusian ruble.”

“This is because of Russia’’s drowing, and we are very close to Russia. We will go to the West, we will be ok, and Russia will go down.”

“We will stop it if we remove Lukashenka. Our main setback is Lukashenka.”

“I believe there will be stability in our state. We will save face even in this situation.”

“Everything depends on the Russian ruble, the Russian economy. After the sanctions were imposed, foreign investors have started to divest, which has an impact on the Russian currency.”

“We do not have our own economy, it does not work. We fully depend on Russia. The Russian ruble is falling – so is ours.”

‘I am not ready [for another devaluation], I do have some fears. But I can say it was predictable.”

“Let it fall. If there is a rise, it will be ok. If not, it will not be so bad.”
