Minsk: Rally in support of expelled students and fired teachers
On October 30, dozens of Minsk-based students gathered at the university buildings, demanding the reinstatement of fired teachers and expelled fellow learners.
Students of a number of higher education institutions (Belarusian State University, Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics, Minsk State Linguistic University, Belarusian State Academy of Arts, Belarusian National Technical University, Belarusian State Economic University, Belarusian State Medical University, Belarusian State Academy of Music) were spotted in today’s protesting.
MSLU students took part in a rally, holding with posters in support of Italian language department associate professor Natallya Dulina who was fired on October, 29. Ms Dulina is one of the teachers who backed the student strike at the university. She is one of the best Belarusian italienists; she had been working at the MSLU since 1991.
More than 60 employees of the Academy of Arts, including Vice Rector for Academic Affairs Alena Bokhan, urged the administration to reinstate the students removed from the Academy on political grounds. Earlier, Ms Bokhan refused to sign the expulsion order.
“We, teachers and staff of the Belarusian State Academy of Arts, call for putting an end to the persecution of students and employees who express their civic position, to lift the expulsion, and stop debarring peaceful assemblies.
We show our solidarity with the students, teachers and staff of the Belarusian State Academy of Arts whose civil and political freedoms have been violated,” the appeal reads.
