A Minsk court has ruled to punish activist Pyotr Markelau, who was an observer during the recent parliamentary elections, with a 14-day jail term, Viktoryia Fyodarova, Chairwoman of the NGO Legal Initiative, said on Facebook.
The sentence was passed by notorious judge Tatsyana Matyl who was one blacklisted by the European Union and banned from entering its member countries.

Мы видели, что у всех членов комиссии в их результатах подсчета в основной день на этом участке побеждал Стас, за которого отдали голоса несколько сотен избирателей.Как видно на видео, сами члены комиссии не принимают участия в балагане. Вместо этого работают «наблюдатели».

Markelau observed the process of casting ballots at Precinct Nr 286 of the 99th constiturncy. When he started to film Youth Bloc candidate Stas Shashok’s demanding to recount the votes, a police patrol arrived at the scene and then forcibly removed him from the polling station. The observer was handcuffed and taken to the police station. Later, he was charged with disorderly conduct and disobedience to police officers.
On 17 November, Belarus held the election to the House of Representatives, the lower chamber of the parliament. As independent observers showed, the election was heavily falsified. Violations started with denied registration for many opposition activists and continued with early voting, pressure on citizens, and falsification of the votes.
