Minsk judges sentenced to 11 and 13 years in prison for bribes


The Supreme Court of Belarus has found the ex-judges of the Minsk Economic Court Mr Hrushetsky and Ms Melnikava guilty of accepting bribes and other crimes. Both received long terms of imprisonment.

Yury Hrushetsky was found guilty of fraud, giving and taking bribes. He fully admitted his guilt on all counts, he returned to the state treasury more than 60 thousand dollars and cooperated with the investigation.

Hrushetsky was sentenced to 11 years imprisonment with confiscation of property and inability to hold positions in law enforcement and the courts for a period of 5 years. He will be serving his sentence in the maximum security colony.

Alena Melnikava was found guilty of accepting bribes and sentenced to 13 years’ imprisonment with confiscation of property. For 5 years she will not have the right to work in law enforcement and the courts. She will serve the punishment in the minimum security colony.

Four more defendants that were not detained were convicted of fraud and bribery. They got less time in prison. Viktar Vintskevich – 3.5 years of maximum security colony with confiscation of property. Alena Khaletskaya – 3.5 years of general regime colony with confiscation of property. Andrei Rykun received 3 years of restraint of freedom without being sent to a correctional facility of open type. Natallia Hretskaya was sentenced to restriction of freedom for 2 years without being sent to an open type correctional facility.
