Minsk city court upholds sentence to authors of graffiti 'Belarus Must Be Belarusian'

Minsk city court has dismissed the appeal filed by Vadzim Zharomski, Maxim Pyakarski and Vyachaslau Kasinerau.

In January 2016, the sentence was declared to authors of graffiti ‘Belarus is to be Belarusian’ in Frunzensky district court of Minsk. The trio was found guilty of damaging property under Article 341 of the Belarusian Criminal Code. Vadzim Zharomski was punished by a fine of 50 basic units, Maxim Pyakarski – 40 basic units, Vyachaslau Kasinerau – 30 basic units.

In May and August 2015, the men drew graffitis in Minsk – one with the words “Belarus must be Belarusian”, ornament and crossed signs of the sickle with a hammer and swastika, and the other with the inscription “The revolution of consciousness is already in progress …”, featuring a silhouette of a man throwing a Molotov cocktail. They also stained with paint a social banner with an image of police officers on Haretski Street in Minsk.
