Mild COVID-19 patients may be exempted from mandatory hospitalisation

People having a mild form of COVID-19 may be allowed to recover at their homes, Deputy Health Minister Alena Bohdan said in an interview to ctv.by.

According to her, the ministry has already adopted a decree cancelling the mandatory hospitalisation of the so called first-level contacts patients. Such people are expected to keep the self-isolation regime. The next step is to authorise the homestay of the people who have only a touch of the novel coronavirus.

“In the near future, we [the ministry] will present a regulatory document that will allow the citizens who have asymptomatic or benign coronavirus infection to stay at home on condition that they are in position to completely self-isolate,” Alena Bohdan stressed.

At the moment, about 5,000 people are self-isolated in Belarus, but that number is changing every day, the health official added.

As of 12 April, 2,578 people were on hospital treatment with confirmed coronavirus infection in Belarus. The Health Ministry reports that the disease mostly takes place in a mild or medium form. However, 50 people need artificial ventilation of the lungs. By now, the number of victims has increased to 26.
