Minsk as venue for separatists. 'Belarus is part of Russian World' - notorious author meets with fans

Writer Nikolai Starikov, a leader of the Antimaidan movement and ideologue of the ‘Russian world’, has met with his Belarusian fans in Minsk. As Svetach bookstore and Belarus Hotel refused to give a venue for a meeting, the Moscow’s House in Minsk hosted it.

At the entrance there was a stand with books by Starikov and his associates, whoi are notorious for their imperial ambitions. The books were very popular among the attenders.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”39409″ img_size=”large”][vc_column_text]Before the meeting Starikov was an invited guest on the Belarusian state-run television. The TV show opened with a moment of silence in memory of those who died in terrorist attacks in Paris and in Russia’s Airbus A321 crash. However, a few minutes later Starikov blamed the West for organizing terrorist attacks so that they could ‘look like a victim’ and have the opportunity to ‘build up their military presence in Syria’. According to him, the Russian military operation in Syria is nothing but ‘the return of a multipolar world’. He also made a long speech about the Russian army’s effective fight against terrorists, their precision weapons and Putin’s decision that ‘frustrated all plans of the West’.

When representatives of the Belarusian youth organisation ‘Young Front’ began chanting “Suitcase, railway station, Russia!”, they were grabbed and kicked out of the hall by some men with badges.

Starikov called this ‘a provocation, part of the information war, the picture for Ukrainian viewers’.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”39390″ img_size=”large”][vc_column_text]The opinion about U.S. striving for ‘seizing and destroying Russia’ was thick in the air. By the way, according to Starikov, even Europe was occupied by the Americans. Young attenders dressed in suits gave warm encouragement to Starikov’s ideas and expressed regret over the impossibility to beat Young Front activists and independent journalists.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”39398″ img_size=”large”][vc_column_text]’China is U.S. project’

Half of the questions put to the writer by the audience were based on conspiracy theories: for example, when a fan said that China is a U.S. project, it was not subtle trolling. And if someone present tried to destroy these theories, the majority accused them of ignorance. In his turn, Starikov hardly respond to any criticism and cunningly shifted subjects.

When Starikov was asked to express his attitude towards the Belarusian statehood and identity once and for all, he replied that he respects our identity, but considers Belarus ‘part of the great Russian world’.

These words were welcomed by a warm ovation…
