Merkel, Putin to talk about US, Iran, Ukraine in Moscow

German Chancellor Angela Merkel will arrive in Russia on January, 11 on the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Kremlin’s press office reports.

The information has been confirmed by German government’s sposesperson Steffen Seibert.

“During the talks, the sides intend to discuss essential issues of the international agenda, including the situation in Syria and Libya, the escalation of tension in the Middle East as a result of the US airstrike on Baghdad Airport on January 3,” state-run news agency TASS quotes the Kremlin.

According to the statement, the conflict in Donbas, including the decisions made at the recent Normandy Four summit, is also on the agenda. As reported earlier, the leaders of France, Germany, Russia and Ukraine met in Paris on December, 9.

The previous bilateral meeting of Putin and Merkel took place in Berlin in August, 2018.
