Man shot by policeman on January 1st put into detention center

The 28-year-old Minsk resident Andrei Haurosh, who was shot by a policeman on January 1, was transferred from the hospital to the detention center, tut.by reports with reference to the man’s friends.

The 23-year-old police sergeant who shot Andrei is currently on holiday, police told reporters.

The incident took place in Minsk on Lyubimau Avenue. Neighbors called the police on 1 January, because of the noise coming from the apartment in a residential building where a group of people were celebrating at 6 am.

According to the press service of the Minsk police department, the law enforcement officers, who arrived at the scene, were met at the door by a man in a drunken state. Policemen’s explanations allegedly had no effect on him. According to the police report, the man suddenly struck the police officer in the chest, and then made a series of blows to the head, trying to seize his weapon. The sergeant shot to the side, and then made two shots at the attacker.

A criminal case was launched against the young man for resisting the police officers (Article 363 of the Criminal Code). He could face up to 5 years in prison. The policeman was diagnosed with traumatic brain injury and other injuries.
