On September 8, hundreds of Minskers gathered in the vicinity of Kamarouski market to show support for Coordination Council member Maryia Kalesnikava. She was detained at the Belarusian-Ukrainian border on Tuesday morning.
Policemen immediately arrived at the scene, warning Belarusians against showing up at ‘the unauthorised mass event’. Plainclothes people were filming the participants.
A bit later, OMON forces and persons wearing balaclavas and green uniforms (but allegedly having no insignia) started to detain the protesters. The women were chanting: “Thugs!”
According to human rights centre Viasna, the unknown individuals have grabbed Natallya Saluk, Halina Makratsova, Alena Artsyomenkava. Belsat.eu has also got information about the detention of poets Hanna Komar, Uladzimir Lyankevich and translator Syarhei Myadzvedzeu.
