Since early morning, protests have been underway in the Belarusian capital.
As People’s Ultimatum expired at 23.59 on October 25, opposition leader Svyatlana Tsikhanouskaya called on Belarusians to start a nationwide strike. The major demands are Lukashenka’s resignation and the release of political prisoners.
On October 26, workers of a number of state-owned enterprises in Minsk and Hrodna joined the strike; lots of Belarusian students (Minsk State Linguistic University, Belarusian National Technical University, Belarusian State University, Belarusian State Medical University, Belarusian State Pedadogical University and others) are showing support for striking workers and employees.

A march of pensioners, students and workers kicked off at 2 pm (local time) in Minsk. The participants gathered in Independence Square, marched along the main avenue of the city and reached Yakub Kolas Square at about 16.30.
They were standing a solidarity chain there. Balaclaved siloviki repeatedly made it disperse, but people go back and keep forming the chain again.
As of 7 pm on Monday, 218 persons have been detained across Belarus, human rights centre Viasna reports. The list of detainees is being updated.
