Man uses female name to leave insulting comment, faces prison

A user named Volha Ivanova from Vitsebsk posted a comment on her page in social networks under a publication about construction of the ice rink and the pool in the regional center. There she insulted the local officials. After the authorities appealed to the police, this story became a basis for investigation, the website of the Vitsebsk Department of Internal Affairs reports.


The police found out that Volha Ivanova is actually a 35-year-old employee of the Vitsebsk Housing Repairs and Utilities Association. However, he was not able to either explain the reasons for his behavior or say why an adult man signed by female name and surname.

Currently, a criminal case has been initiated against him under article 369 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus (Insulting a representative of the authorities). His virtual comments can be grounds for three years’ imprisonment.
