Mahiliou resident fined for WRW flag on balcony


“The balcony is part of my apartment. I can do what I want,” said Alyaksei Barysau in court. But on January 27, the Leninski District Court of Mahiliou found him guilty of picketing on his own balcony and fined him 35 basic units.

He agreed that there was a flag and two stickers on his balcony. But he denied his guilt of the alleged picketing.

Besides journalists, the head of the Leninski District Department of Internal Affairs Tsimur Pakhomenka came to Alyaksei Barysau’s trial. To hear the verdict in person. He demanded that Alyaksei Barysau pay the fine under Article 23.34 of the Code of Administrative Offences as soon as possible and give him the receipt.

After the man complied with this demand and brought a receipt for the fine payment to the local police department, the police failed to submit the information to the court thus the court referred the case to bailiffs. As a result, the already paid fine was charged again from Alyaksei’s card.

Alyaksei Barysau says that the police are watching him very closely.

According to him, the police insisted on his dismissal from job – from December 30, 2020, Alyaksei Barysau will not work as a soil scientist at the state organization “Design Institute of Mahiliohimprozem,” to which he has devoted 12 years of his life.

In the spring of 2020, Alyaksei Barysau joined the Mahiliou community of the “Country for Life” as a volunteer and actively participated in pickets in support of Svyatlana Tsikhanouskaya.
