Lukashenka to Russian TV: They may admit Belarus to NATO

Last week Alyaksandr Lukashenka granted an interview to notorious Russian TV host Sergei Brilev. Its excerpt has been published on vesti.ru.

In the published part of the interview, the issues of the prospects of the Eurasian Economic Union and EU’s alleged attempts to win over Belarus were raised.

“Central Asia has its own interests. I know what I am talking about. You see what is going on in Ukraine. And they are out for Belarus! They are very nearly ready to admit us to the NATO – on condition that there is change of power, more democracy and so on. Earlier, no one held such conversations. The struggle is being advanced. And trying to make Russia bend and smack it down is part of it,” the Belarusian leader said.

“What a monologue!” Brilev responsed enthusiastically. “Well, if need be, make excisions, you can do that!” Lukashenka shot back.

According to him, the West is now trying to drive a wedge into the relations of post-Soviet countries..

“It is also struggling for Russia. It will not be easy, that is why we should put our brains to good use, set a goal and pursue it. And we can do it,” Lukashenka promised.

Earlier, Sergei Brilev, a well-known anchorman at Rossiya 1 TV station who repeatedly provided commentary for Putin’s inaugurations, confirmed that he had another citizenship as well as property in London. In November, the Anti-Corruption Foundation led by Russian opposition politician Alexei Navalny reported that Mr Brilev had been granted UK citizenship in 2001. His wife Irina Brileva purchased an apartment at the cost of 700,000 pounds on February 22, 2016, the investigation says.
