After persecution by Lukashenka regime, Svetlana Alexievich left Belarus in 2000. The International Cities of Refuge Network offered her sanctuary and during the following decade she lived in Paris, Berlin and Gothenburg. In 2011 Alexievich moved back to Minsk.

The state-run Belarusian Television- and Radio Company, ONT and STV channels will not broadcast the awarding ceremony.

“Belarusian TV never planned to acquire broadcasting rights to broadcasting rights due to a number of organizational, technical, financial and legal issues and aspects,” Svyatlana Smalonskaya-Kraskouskaya, Spokeswoman for the media holding, said.

On December 1, the Belarusian Language Society (TBM) addressed Henadz Davydzka, Head of the Television- and Radio, with request to air the ceremony referring to the fact that Svetlana Alexievich is a Belarusian writer. But Mr. Davydzka ignored it.

On December 10, the Nobel Prize 2015 for achievements in various fields – from medicine to literature – will be awarded in Stockholm and Oslo. The Belarusian writer Svetlana Alexievich will receive her – and the country’s – first Nobel in the Swedish capital. Because of this historic event, from 7 to 11 December, a significant portion of airtime on Belsat TV will be dedicated to the  “Nobel week with Svetlana Alexievich.”[/vc_column_text][vc_raw_html]JTNDaWZyYW1lJTIwd2lkdGglM0QlMjI1NjAlMjIlMjBoZWlnaHQlM0QlMjIzMTUlMjIlMjBzcmMlM0QlMjJodHRwcyUzQSUyRiUyRnd3dy55b3V0dWJlLmNvbSUyRmVtYmVkJTJGVTh0ZmZtZFgzX2MlMjIlMjBmcmFtZWJvcmRlciUzRCUyMjAlMjIlMjBhbGxvd2Z1bGxzY3JlZW4lM0UlM0MlMkZpZnJhbWUlM0U=[/vc_raw_html][vc_column_text]Read also: Nobel Prize winner Svetlana Alexievich: I wonder how Lukashenka will get out of situation
