Lukashenka says Belarus and Latvia will hold 'best' world ice hockey championship

Belarus and Latvia will organize one of the best world ice hockey championships in 2021, Alyaksandr Lukashenka said during a meeting with President of the International Ice Hockey Federation Rene Fasel on January 4, the press service of the Belarusian President reports.

“I’m very grateful to the International Ice Hockey Federation and personally to the President for your support of the world championship in Belarus and Latvia. You can rest assured: we will hold this championship together with our neighbors at a decent level. It will be one of the best world championships. I strongly promise you this,” Lukashenka said.

Two applications were submitted for the right to host the World Championships in 2021: one from Belarus and Latvia, the other from Finland. Latvia already hosted the World Championships in 2006, while Belarus hosted the tournament in 2014.

Rene Fasel came to Minsk for the Christmas International Amateur Ice Hockey Tournament.
