Russia’s bitter experience: Belarus president wants security services to stay alert

Peace and quiet should be ensured during New Year and Christmas holidays in Belarus, Alyaksandr Lukashenka said during Monday’s government session in Minsk.

The president ordered urged local authorities, heads of rural councils, the government, the State Secretariat of the Security Council, the State Control Committee, the presidential Administration to pay special attention to security issues.

“The recent events in Russia, including explosions of gas cylinder in the Moscow metro, road accidents, show that we should remain alert. We are not on a condemned road; on the contrary, we are in the epicenter. Therefore, we must preserve peace and quiet in our country whatever it takes. That is the most important thing,” the Belarusian leader stressed.

According to him, it is the country’s law enforcement bodies and security services which should do their best to keep the peace.

“I would like you to keep your eyes in the run-up to New Year and Christmas,” he added.
