Lukashenka meets with Russian governor, while Tsikhanouskaya meets top European leaders


Alyaksandr Lukashenka is meeting more leaders of the Russian regions, while Svyatlana Tsikhanouskaya is preparing to meet with the head of Germany.

On September 30, Lukashenka met with another head of a Russian region, the governor of the Bryansk region, Alexander Bogomaz. This visit was already the sixth in the last 9 days.

Earlier, Lukashenka met with the governors of Primorye, Irkutsk, Omsk, Pskov and Leningrad regions. It was also planned to hold the Forum of the Regions of Belarus and Russia. But the Russian delegation did not attend the forum, although the chair of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko and even Russian President Vladimir Putin were expected there. Due to the coronavirus, the forum was held online.

In addition, on September 24, Lukashenka met with Chinese Ambassador Cui Qiming.

Meanwhile, the schedule of Svyatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s meetings has been more intense.

So, on September 29, she met with French President Emmanuel Macron, on September 25 – with US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State George Kent, before that she met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands Stef Blok and the Ambassador of the Netherlands to Lithuania Bonnie Horbach. And on September 22, her visit to Brussels ended, where the ex-candidate addressed the EU Foreign Ministers, met with the head of EU diplomacy Josep Borrell, European Parliament President David Sosoli and addressed the MEPs.

She also spoke via video link at an informal meeting of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.

On September 30, German Chancellor Angela Merkel confirmed that she would also meet with Svyatlana Tsikhanouskaya in Berlin in the near future.
