Lukashenka Jr even more popular than father? Belsat TV news story hits record

A Belsat TV news story about  the visit of Alyaksandr Lukashenka and his son Kolya to China has set a sort of record – in total, it was viewed nearly 1.3 times on social media.

Users of Russian social network Odnoklassniki (ok.ru) were the most proactive in watching it (over 1 mln views).

Kolya in Beijing

When Kolya was a little boy, he was present at the Olympics in Beijing; in 2015, he attended a parade. This year, Chinese President Xi Jin Ping was pleasantly surprised to see that Lukashenka Jr had grown up into a teenager. Kolya gave a jewel-box as a gift to his wife and drank champagne at the dinner event.

The 12-year-old apparently enjoyed being at the banquet, not at school.

Job of ‘son of the president’

Many Belarusians slammed Lukashenka for taking the son to high-level meetings and allowing him to dring alcoholic beverages.

“He has such a position  – the son of the president,” a Minsk resident sarcastically told Belsat TV.

Internet users are even more radical when expressing their outrage.

“It is nothing but a crying shame!” – it is one of the mildest comments by indignant Belarusians below the video.

What is the use of Lukashenka’s visits?

“The leaders of Belarus failed to make any breakthrough at the summit. He did not manage to hold meetings with his Chinese and Russian counterparts. In his speech at the roundtable Lukashenka praised Great Stone, the joint Belarusian-Chinese project, which the Belarusian side calls the ‘production of tomorrow’, but according to independent experts, it is that of yesterday. As for the benefits from the president’s visits to China, each time the trade balance goes negative,” Belsat TV journalist Volha Starastsina said in the news story.

Meanwhile, when Lukashenka was visiting China, Russian journalists got back to the subject of Belarus.  In the latest episode of TV show International Sawmill, its host Tigran Keosayan cracked a cheap joke on Kolya and named him ‘crown prince’.
