Lukashenka invites Putin to European Games closing ceremony


Alyaksandr Lukashenka and Vladimir Putin have talked over the phone.

“The presidents briefly discussed the bilateral agenda. Alyaksandr Lukashenka invited his Russian counterpart to visit the closing ceremony of the 2nd European Games. Vladimir Putin accepted the invitation,” the Belarusian leader’s press service reports.

Interestingly, there has been no information about the talk on the Kremlin official website so far.

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev and Chechnya’s head Ramzan Kadyrov were among the VIP guests attending the opening ceremony.

The 2nd European Games are being held in the Belarusian capital in June 21-30, 2019. For the first time it took place in 2015 in Baku; it was started rolling by Alyaksandr Lukashenka’s close friend, Azerbaijani president Ilham Aliyev, who definitely wants it to run and run. However, holding the event may cost Belarusians $30-40 mln.

196 countries are reported to be broadcasting the Games in which 4,000 athletes, representatives of 50 states, are participating. In total, competitions in 15 sports and 23 disciplines will take place.
