Lukashenka has no intention to 'justify himself' for military cooperation with Baku

Belarusian president Alyaksandr Lukashenka has met with Azerbaijan Defense Minister Zakir Hasanov on Monday.

Belarus and Azerbaijan keep maintaining cooperation in different fields, including in the military and technical sector, he promised.

“Far it from me to explain to anyone what nature our relations have. Just one thing is to be highlighted: our relations do not violate any international agreements, any resolutions of the United Nations Security Council. Belarus is a sovereign independent state, and we have the right to establish the areas of cooperation that tune in with the temper of the times and the needs of our states,” he said.

According to Lukashenka, the Belarusians have no issues to the Azerbaijani people at all

“We hold you in high respect. Most notably, I remember very well that your president has always supported the Belarusian state. We remember it very well and are ready to do everything we can for Azerbaijan. We are ready to do our best to help you enhance security, develop your country, improve the wellbeing of Azerbaijani people, and make them even more prosperous. We will pursue only these noble goals,” the Belarusian leader stressed.

Earlier this year, the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) said that Belarus took the 18th place in Top 25 world exporters of major weapons in 2012-2016. Azerbaijan, which is among the buyers of Belarusian weapons, ranked 4th. 11% of the Belarusian arms exports has gone to this country over the last five years.
