Lukashenka flies to Uzbekistan to offer cooperation


President of Belarus Alyaksandr Lukashenka flew to Tashkent for talks with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

During the meeting, Lukashenko proposed to build an embassy next to the Palace of Independence in Minsk and to transfer Belarusian enterprises to Uzbekistan.

Miziyoyev offered Belarus cooperation in the processing of Uzbek cotton. He also offered their participation in the development of oil fields.

“The oil and gas industry, for example. Your science is developing, and we have wells,” Mirziyoyev added.

Mirziyoyev asked Lukashenka to open several branches of Belarusian universities in Uzbekistan and create a joint agricultural “cluster”.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev won the presidential election in 2016, which was called after the death of Islam Karimov. The predecessor of Mirziyoyev had ruled the country since 1989.
