Lukashenka replaces mayor of Minsk

Chairman of the Minsk City Executive Committee Andrei Shorats has been removed from office. Anatol Sivak was appointed the new ‘mayor’ of the capital. Previously, he served as Minister of Transport and Communications.

I have a lot of complaints and a lot of questions not only to the former leadership (Minsk City Executive Committee – headed by Shorats, but also to the members of the executive committee themselves — the staff,” said Lukashenka, commenting on the new appointment.

Mr Shorats was removed from office “in light of transfer to another position”. He had been running the Minsk City Executive Committee since November 2014. On the eve, Lukashenka said that he had ordered to put handcuffs on the leadership of the Central District of Minsk, who were involved in real estate fraud..
