The Belarusian leader commented on the discussions regarding the concurrence of the two election campaigns in 2020 at Thursday’s meeting with Chairman of the lower house of Parliament Uladzimir Andreychanka.
As reported earlier, the next presidential and parliamentary elections fall for the year of 2020. opposition politicians do not rule out that the Belarusian leaer will jump at the opportunity to earlirize th presidential run.
“I want to say that we should not worm our way out of it. Some fifth column media, especially online resources, say that Lukashenka will have early elections to gain time. It is complete and utter rubbish. I have never played with such things and I will never do it,” Alyaksandr Lukashenka said.
“When we make a decision on holding these elections separately or at the same time (I would like to know your opinion), we will inform about it in advance so that government bodies and all people willing to become members of the parliament and presidential candidates could prepare for it. We will not deceive anyone,” state-run news agency BelTA quotes him.
At the same time, the head of the Central Election Commission Lidziya Yarmoshyna told state-run TV that it was not advisable to have two large election campaigns in one year. According to her, the perfect time for one of the election campaigns would be November 2019. However, the top official did not specify which elections (parliamentary or presidential) would be held earlier.
