Lowcosters to fly from Hrodna?

The company “Belaeronavigatsia”, which owns the airport in Hrodna, is in talks with lowcosters and other airlines.

“We consider this airport to be close to Vilnius, we want to “interrupt” the passenger traffic that leaves from us to Vilnius,” TUT.BY reports the words of Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications Alyaksei Lyakhnovich.

According to him, we are talking not about Russian, but about European lowcosters. There is already a letter of intent, documents have been signed with Polish companies, but the issue is still negotiated with AirBaltic.

The Deputy Minister noted that it is the company “Belaeronavigatsiya” which is responsible for these negotiations, so it is still difficult to say when the result will come. The state is ready, for its part, to issue all the permits.

While the Hrodna airport is planned as a site for lowcosters, the airport in Brest could specialize in flights to Poland and Russia. Thus, people traveling from Poland to Russia will be able to fly to Moscow or St. Petersburg without going to Minsk.

According to the Ministry of Transport, regional airports have served about 75,000 passengers last year, and this year it is expected to be one hundred thousand.
